Ahriman Middle aged, half-human, half-Ferfolk Sorcerer. Wrinkled skin, middle aged but looks older. Wears a brown robe. Owner of the Red Sphere. Former apprentice of Minaras. Named after the Zoroastrian spirit of darkness.
 
Air Spirit Small, transparent spirits. Mostly harmless. Generally not capable of lifting a man on their own.
 
Alchemy The study of liquids and potions
 
Anxiar A wide river running along the southern border of human lands. Spills into the Great Ocean near Seaton.
 
Arboreal Tree-dwelling race from tropics with pale green skin. Polite, slow decision-makers, excellent climbers, and able to speak through nearly imperceptible facial expressions.
 
Arboreal Forest Expansive forest covering the southern portion of the continent
 
Arboreal Fortress Moss carpet, tiny flowers on walls in pictures of mural, scent of nectar, lichen glows when someone is underneath. Once a human castle. Near Farset. Home of the Green Sphere.
 
Ardune Famous warrior who drove the Fracodians away from Krof. Named Fracodian Slayer. Father of Arwold.
 
Argen Particularly hefty leader of the Ferfolk Village
 
Arwold Young knight living in Krof. Very tall, wealthy. Family sword has the Purple Sphere attached to the pommel. Son of Ardune.
 
Blaeculf Intelligent and aggressive canine, twice the size of a gray wolf, muscular body covered in black fur.
 
Calan Innkeeper who owns The Weary Traveler in Farset
 
Calazar Mercenary working for Arwold. Wears chain mail and wields a saber. Killed by a specter in the Hillside graveyard.
 
Castle in the Mountain Partially-buried castle at the foot of Mount Therol, south of Terun City. Former home of the Yellow Sphere.
 
Cold Ocean Large body of water north of the continent
 
Conjuration The study of imbuing everyday objects with special powers
 
Corselle Wife of Calan
 
Crypt Ghoul Undead creature summoned by a Necromancer that feeds on living flesh. Dismembered parts of its body can move on their own.
 
Cursed Island Transmutation Isle
 
Dark Whey Black, sticky substance made from bone powder
 
Demon, Guardian of the Wall Cross between a human and dragon with the head of a bull, ten feet tall, drools from loose flesh near mouth. Ensures spirits don't move between realm of lost souls and realm of walls.
 
Derst Wears rings of sparkling jewels. Terun trader with the largest collection of crystals in the world. Watches guests through enchanted crystals in the walls of his mountainside home.
 
Donelar Young mercenary lieutenant in Arwold's army. Especially distrustful of Ferfolk.
 
Doppelganger Duplicate of a person created by an amorphous being
 
Druida Old Arboreal. Long hair reminiscent of a willow tree. One of the three Arboreal Elders.
 
Earth Spirit Twelve foot tall, headless spirit composed of earth and rocks, massive arms, legs, and body.
 
Elemental The manipulation of the four elements: air, earth, fire, and water
 
Eye of Glynwold Ruby necklace stolen by Veld to frame Halia
 
Falgoran Ancient Arboreal. One of three Arboreal elders. Wears a Z-shaped pendant. Taller and more accepting of humans than most Arboreals.
 
Familiar Animal with a special bond to a wizard
 
Farset Southwestern human town bordering the wastelands. Childhood home of Xarun.
 
Ferfolk Leather-skinned warrior race from the desert. Resistant to the direct effects of magic.
 
Foendale Lake Large lake midway between the Arboreal Fortress and the secret passage through the Pensorean Mountains
 
Forest Spirit Human-shaped spirit consisting of leaves, twigs, and dirt. Grows larger as it picks up debris from the forest floor.
 
Foxmoor Small village northeast of Farset
 
Fracodian Hairy, pug-faced cross between a human and a bear. Able to become berserk, gaining strength and speed for a limited time.
 
Ghoul Flesh-eating withered human created by a specter
 
Giant Fluke Delicacy from the southern waters of the Great Ocean
 
Great Library Large library in fourth ring of Zairn. Formerly a monastery. Rectangular building with open courtyard in the middle.
 
Great Ocean Large body of water east of the continent
 
Hafoc Ahriman's crow familiar
 
Halia Young female thief. Very intelligent, long dark hair, bright smile, thin, tall. Orphaned as a child. Found the Blue Sphere in the ruins of a castle east of Hillside.
 
Hidville Large village two days west of Krof. Home of the Necromancer.
 
Hillside Small village on an offshoot of the Anxiar river
 
Illusion The study of disguise and deception
 
Krof Largest town on the Sinewan River, halfway between Terun City and Zairn, with many extravagant inns. Home of Arwold.
 
Kuril Arboreal commander of the Northern Fortress. Tall, lanky, scar on his right cheek. Gave final blow to Magma Spirit.
 
Larz Terun merchant exiled from Terun City. Leader of the marauders.
 
Luceville Fishing village on the Cold Ocean. Rumored to house thieves and assassins.
 
Magma Spirit Powerful spirit summoned from a Phoenix egg. Nine feet tall, wings of volcanic glass, globular body of magma, glows like embers of fire, skin in constant motion. Can withstand its master unless restrained within a magic circle.
 
Marsh Dragon Pseudo-dragon. Able to change the shape and hardness of its skin. Spawns doppelganger-like beings.
 
Mena Daughter of Calan and Corselle
 
Minaras Old Elementalist from Seaton. Balding with bright blue eyes. Owns a huge personal library. Taught magic to Ahriman, Thulin, and Oswynn.
 
Mist Spirit Small, round ball of mist with arms, legs, and eyes
 
Mountain Giant Humanoid, twenty feet tall, with a bloated body and stringy hair. Capable of limited speech. Wears rotting clothes.
 
Naedregat Large black and white creature with the body of a goat and two snake heads. Spits acid, barks, and hisses. Herded by mountain giants.
 
Necromancy The study of death and the dead
 
Nehael Mercenary killed and eaten by crypt ghouls near Krof
 
Nerv Terun thief who taught Halia for several months and eventually framed her
 
Night Spirit Spherical, shape-changing, inky black spirit with tentacles. Kills through terror. Nearly invulnerable outer layer.
 
Ogre Eight-foot tall humanoid with gruff face, green tongue, and thick hide. Strong and quick.
 
Oswynn Young, quick-learning apprentice of Minaras. Has a scar on his forehead from the War Hammer Demon. Born into a family of farmers. Studies under Sigmus.
 
Pech Half-giant/half-Terun crossbreed. Looks like a fat Terun but much stronger.
 
Pensorean Mountains Northern mountain range, separates the human lands from the Cold Ocean. Covered by white pine forests.
 
Phan Head of the most powerful mining family
 
Phoenix Magical bird. Eggs can be used to summon Magma Spirits.
 
Racer Half-human, half-crab Elementalist. As a human, sent to kill Hisvii but got trapped instead.
 
Razor Mountains Western half of the Pensorean mountain range. Taller and rockier than the mountains east of Terun City.
 
Regor Guard in the Arboreal Fortress. Fought Xarun for Green Sphere.
 
Resula Small Terun village near the border to the wastelands. Home of the best ale.
 
River Spirit Gigantic headless torso. Similar to an Earth Spirit but composed of water.
 
Sabretooth Powerful feline predator with long fangs. Bred by the Arboreal army to attack large targets.
 
Seaton Port city on Anxiar Delta by Great Ocean. Second largest city in the land. Home of Minaras.
 
Sindula Guard in the Arboreal Fortress. Fought Xarun for Green Sphere.
 
Sinewan River flowing from the Dagger mountains, past Kroflund, to Zairn
 
Skeleton Animated set of bones. Able to wield weapons and obey simple commands.
 
Sorcery The summoning and controlling of spirits
 
Specter Half-dead state of a powerful Necromancer. Nebulous torso with a head, arms, and glowing yellow eyes.
 
Staff of Ogma Enchanted ebony staff in the shape of two intertwined vipers with their tongues extended.
 
Sterm Honest, gruff jeweler in Seaton. Owns the Silver Plum.
 
Surcham Captain of fishing vessel. Took Minaras, Halia, Xarun, Kuril, and Veld to Transmutation Island.
 
Tenderling Name for a young Arboreal
 
Terun Mountain-dwelling masters of metal and stone. Short, manipulative, and experts at bargaining.
 
Terun City The mountainside home of Terun traders and merchants. Less prestigious than Terun Undercity but more impressive to outsiders.
 
Terun Fungal Ale Tangy beverage brewed in the undercity
 
Thaumaturgy The study of blessings and miracles
 
Thulin Young apprentice of Minaras. Thin, scholarly. Good at theory but not execution of magic. Parents are famous Conjurers in Seaton. Killed by Arwold with the Claymore.
 
Transmutation The transformation of one or more objects
 
Transmutation Isle Small, volcanic island in the Cold Ocean. North of Terun City.
 
Two Rivers Village near Seaton
 
Tyfus Half-dragon/half-human created by Hisvii. Trapped in a mystical prison for 600 years.
 
Ulfen Arboreal Elder. Father of Kuril.
 
Undercity Lower half of Terun City. Beneath the Tooth of the Gods.
 
Veld Middle aged Terun thief. Partner of Nerv. Became Terun governor through deceit and bribery.
 
Vistrium A rare metal, prized by Teruns. Stronger and lighter than steel but difficult to forge.
 
Wastelands Vast desert covering the central and western portion of the continent
 
Water Spirit Amorphous spirit drawn to small bodies of water such as ponds or lakes. Able to send multiple tendrils of water long distances simultaneously.
 
Wyn Veld's lieutenant
 
Xarun Warrior from Farset. Bear-like, covered in dark hair, heavily muscled. Wields a double-bladed axe and wears boiled leather armor with spiked greaves, bracers, and pauldrons. Had a strict upbringing and was physically beaten as a child.
 
Zairn Oldest city in the land. Located where the Sinewan River spills into the Great Ocean. Built in concentric rings.
